About Us

Sheffcare is an independent Sheffield-based charity, proudly caring for older people and individuals living with dementia.

Founded in 1994, Sheffcare was established when several residential homes transferred from Sheffield City Council into charitable ownership. Our mission remains unchanged: to offer high-quality, person-centred care at affordable prices, while safeguarding vital services for Sheffield’s older population.

Today, we operate nine residential care homes and two day services, providing a range of support including permanent residential care, short-term respite, and step-down care for those leaving hospital. Across our homes, we offer both residential and dementia care, with one of our homes, Valley Wood, dedicated exclusively to people living with dementia. We care for over 1,000 individuals annually, supporting both self-funded residents and those funded by the local authority.

As a not-for-profit organisation, Sheffcare reinvests any surplus into improving our services, staff development, and care environments. Each of our homes has a unique character, but all share a warm, homely atmosphere and a committed team passionate about making a difference, offering not just physical care, but companionship and joy.

Our work is shaped by a clear, forward-thinking strategy, focused on:

  • Delivering safe, responsive, person-centred care
  • Supporting and developing a valued workforce
  • Maintaining safe, welcoming, and well-run homes
  • Strengthening community partnerships
  • Ensuring sustainability and innovation for the future

We are also deeply committed to Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, striving to create welcoming environments for all and reflecting the vibrant diversity of Sheffield in our staff and services.

At Sheffcare, we don’t just provide care we help people live with dignity, purpose and happiness.
