Registered Manager – Children’s Residential (EBD)
Location: Great Barr, West Midlands
Salary: £55,000 – £65,000 per annum (DOE) + Bonuses
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week (Monday–Friday, with on-call)
Holiday: 28 days + Bank Holidays
Contract: Permanent
The Opportunity
Kindsight Recruitment is supporting the appointment of an experienced Registered Manager for a children’s residential home supporting young people aged 7–18 with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) in Great Barr.
This is a leadership role requiring a confident, child-centred manager who can deliver therapeutic, trauma-informed care, ensure regulatory excellence, and build a stable, high-performing team.
You will have full responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the home, maintaining compliance with Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and working towards sustained Good or Outstanding Ofsted outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Operational Management
- Provide strong, child-centred leadership to the residential team
- Ensure full compliance with Children’s Homes Regulations (2015) and Quality Standards
- Develop and review the Statement of Purpose
- Maintain policies, procedures, and safeguarding culture
- Oversee health & safety and risk management within the home
- Create a positive, structured, and nurturing environment
Support for Children with EBD
- Oversee admissions, assessments, and placement stability
- Lead on care planning, behaviour management strategies, and risk assessments
- Champion trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches
- Ensure children’s voices are heard and embedded into planning
- Support transition planning and preparation for independence
- Promote inclusion within the local community
Safeguarding & Compliance
- Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
- Prepare and lead the home through Ofsted inspections
- Oversee Reg 44 and Reg 45 reporting
- Embed a strong safeguarding culture across the service
Staff Management & Development
- Recruit, supervise, and develop staff
- Conduct supervisions and appraisals
- Ensure therapeutic and professional development pathways
- Lead continuous improvement planning
- Manage staffing cover and rota stability
Financial & Administrative Oversight
- Manage budgets, staffing levels, and resources
- Ensure GDPR-compliant record keeping
- Report performance to senior leadership
Essential Criteria
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Registered Manager or Deputy within children’s residential care
- Proven experience working with EBD, trauma, and complex behaviours
- Strong knowledge of Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Ofsted framework
- Enhanced DBS & Full UK Driving Licence
- Ability to participate in the on-call rota
Desirable
- Experience achieving Good or Outstanding Ofsted ratings
- Therapeutic or trauma-informed training
- Experience supporting children with ASD, ADHD, or additional needs
