Job Overview
- The Service Improvement Manager (SIM) for Emergency Medicine plays a key leadership role in supporting the operational delivery of a dynamic and fast-paced service.
- The post Holder will provide managerial oversight of administrative teams within the Emergency Department and work collaboratively with clinical and non-clinical colleagues to drive service improvements.
- This role requires a versatile skillset, including the ability to lead teams, analyse and present data and support with governance processes.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will work as part of adynamic team in delivering an effective service supporting senior managers and clinicians within Emergency Medicine.
- The post holder will provide high-level, professional and confidential support to the Senior Manager team under the management of the Assistant Directorate Manager.
- Ensuring delivery of a high-quality, cost-effective, and efficient service, enabling all opportunities for service improvement to be delivered.

Essential criteria
- Degree level or equivalent experience or qualification
- Post Graduate Diploma in Management or equivalent, demonstrable knowledge and experience
- Operational management experience
- Evidence of problem-solving and innovation
Desirable criteria
- Experience in managing people
- Experience in project management
- Knowledge of Health and Safety
- Knowledge of training opportunities
Essential criteria
- Significant experience working within the NHS, particularly within Medicine.
- Experience in report writing and presentation skills.
- Evidence of assisting in the Management of multiple projects simultaneously and evidence of meeting timescales.
- Experience in managing NHS waiting lists or similar initiatives.
- Experience in managing administrative systems.
- Team player and evidence of teamwork.
- Excellent written, communication and planning skills, Leadership skills and Negotiation skills
Desirable criteria
- Experience in operating at a management level. Evidence of managing performance-related issues.
- Experience of managing finance and administration of budgets. Analytical skills Experience of dealing with concerns.
- Understanding and experience of managing change.
- Experience with information systems, including the use of different software. Budgetary and staff management.
Essential criteria
- Advanced level of use & Knowledge of IT packages including Word, Excel, outlook and PowerPoint.
- High level of knowledge of PMS
- Awareness of Data protection issues.
- Awareness of health and safety issues, legislation and its application within the workplace.
- Understanding of the key issues affecting the Trust and the Health Service in Wales.
Desirable criteria
- Able to interpret information and report to the service manager on key issues.
- Understanding of European working time legislation.
- Understanding work-life balance issues.
- Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh
