About Us

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust

At Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust (CHFT), we are committed to providing compassionate, high-quality care to the people of Calderdale, Huddersfield, and the surrounding areas. We operate as a public leader in health services, dedicated to continuous improvement, innovation, and putting our patients at the heart of everything we do.

Who We Are

We are an NHS Foundation Trust employing over 7,000 staff who deliver care through two main hospitals—Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary—as well as across various community sites, health centres, and directly within patients' homes. As an NHS Foundation Trust, we are driven by an independent board that responds directly to the needs of our local community, patients, and staff.

What We Do

We deliver an extensive range of acute and community-based health services:

  • Acute Hospital Services: Including urgent and emergency care (A&E), surgery, maternity and gynaecology, critical care, and diagnostic imaging.
  • Community Health Services: Our teams provide care in health centres and patients' homes, covering services such as district nursing, therapy, sexual health, and paediatric care.
  • Specialised Care: We offer palliative care, cancer services, and mental health support, often working in partnership with local hospices and community organisations.
  • Hospital at Home: We provide a clinical "Hospital at Home" service for frail or elderly patients, allowing them to receive acute treatment in their own homes, which helps avoid unnecessary hospital admissions.

Our Approach & Values

  • Compassionate Care: We are committed to treating every individual with dignity and respect, fostering a culture of openness and learning.
  • Integrated Care: We work collaboratively with local councils, GPs, and third-sector partners to ensure a seamless "whole-person" approach to health and social care.
  • Community-Focused: We invest in modern facilities and community diagnostic centres to make healthcare more accessible and to provide care closer to where our patients live.
  • Continuous Improvement: We are focused on research, staff development, and quality improvement, as evidenced by our strong performance ratings and our commitment to being an employer of choice.

Industry Role

We operate as an NHS Foundation Trust. Our role is to act as the primary provider of acute and community health services for our region. We bridge the gap between hospital-based medical care and community-based wellbeing support, ensuring the population has access to essential clinical services 24/7.
