About Us
Esland (operating legally under Esland Care or Esland North Limited) is a UK‑based specialist provider of residential childcare, independent special educational needs (SEN) schooling, and trauma‑informed therapeutic support.
The organisation delivers comprehensive, person‑centred care within safe, community‑based spaces and specialised residential provisions across its multi‑regional network, helping vulnerable individuals build resilience and positive outcomes.
Who We Are
Esland operates an integrated network of small residential children's homes and independent special schools. The group specialises in supporting vulnerable children and young people aged between 6 and 18 who have encountered adverse childhood experiences, including complex trauma, foster placement breakdowns, neurodevelopmental disorders, or severe anxiety and emotionally based school avoidance.
The organisation was established in 2004 and has grown into a major national provider, managing approximately 65 specialist homes positioned across a wide geographic footprint spanning from Yorkshire down to Kent. Its central corporate operations are coordinated from its primary commercial headquarters in Belper, Derbyshire.
The service combines structured relational support, specialist clinical therapy, flexible academic tracking, and structured social development to support each young person’s holistic development.
The cross‑functional care and education teams include qualified residential childcare practitioners, therapeutic intervention specialists, field managers, and dedicated special school teachers who create personalised development programmes tailored to the step‑down and transitional goals of each young person.
Esland's operational frameworks ensure strict statutory compliance, working under the rigorous inspection standards of Ofsted to maintain safe, nurturing, and regulated therapeutic environments.
What We Do
Therapeutic Residential Childcare Placements Providing safe, trauma‑informed housing provisions and home support where young people live and learn with consistent support to recover personal confidence, managing solo, dual, or group placements in calm, semi‑rural settings.
Specialist SEN & Day School Education Delivering coordinated care that integrates nurturing academic environments across specialized day schools like Esland Bedford School and Esland Daven School, catering to pupils with autism spectrum conditions or speech and language needs.
Turning the Curve™ Learning Models Offering bespoke educational guidance, independent lifestyle mapping, and child‑led curricula that enable young people to learn from home or via blended pathways if they are unable to enter a traditional formal classroom.
In-House Clinical Interventions & Therapy Using relationship‑based screening, clinical assessments, and tailored emotional regulation plans as part of strategic frameworks to supply direct therapy, helping children process trauma and safely manage mental health challenges.
Approach & Values
Esland focuses on a child‑centred, relationship‑led care approach that respects each young person’s individuality, history, and potential. Its values—built around putting young people at the heart of every operational decision, making every single daily interaction therapeutic in nature, and breaking down the traditional walls between care and education—are embedded in professional practice and support every aspect of the individual’s development.
Industry Role
Esland operates within the UK children's social care, independent special education, and local authority commissioning sectors, providing specialist residential placements, alternative transition frameworks, and emergency stabilisation models that help vulnerable individuals to overcome adversity and achieve meaningful long‑term outcomes.
