At Garvald West Linton, we operate as a pioneering, Steiner-inspired charitable care provider dedicated to supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism. Established in 1944, our mission is built on fostering individual development, self-confidence, and meaningful living through a rhythmical daily life, shared cultural experiences, and productive work opportunities.
Who We Are
Headquartered in the scenic countryside near Dolphinton, West Linton in the Scottish Borders, and fully regulated by the Care Inspectorate, our organisation brings together dedicated house managers, specialist support practitioners, and therapeutic craft tutors. We operate across a unique group-living model spanning five residential houses (Hill Cottage, Linden, Rowan, Sycamore, and Willow) alongside extensive grounds, gardens, and specialised workshops.
What We Do
We deliver an integrated suite of specialist residential care, daytime opportunities, and therapeutic activities:
- Specialist Group Living: Providing permanent residential care across purpose-adapted households where residents and live-in staff form supportive, family-style communities.
- Creative & Productive Day Workshops: Running structured weekday workshops—including a bakery, craft studios (candle-making, pottery, and woodwork), a weavery, and biodynamic horticultural gardens—allowing individuals to develop practical skills and contribute meaningfully.
- Therapeutic Arts & Movement: Incorporating complementary practices such as Eurythmy, gentle therapeutic massage, and artistic expression to stimulate imagination, balance, and well-being.
- Community Integration & Recreation: Supporting residents with social outings, outdoor estate work, music and drama groups, and participation in local seasonal festivals.
