About Us
London Ability
London Ability (formerly known as Ellingham Employment Services) is a well-established, values-led charity dedicated to empowering people with disabilities to reach their full potential. Founded in 1986, the organisation focuses on specialist employment, day opportunities, and independence skills for adults and young people with learning disabilities, autism, and sensory or physical disabilities.
Who We Are
London Ability is a community-focused organisation that has provided high-quality support and training for decades across London boroughs such as Waltham Forest, Hackney, and Newham. Following a rebranding in 2024 to better reflect their mission, they continue to be a market-leading provider of bespoke support services that help individuals integrate into their communities and workplaces.
What We Do
The charity offers three primary areas of specialisation:
- Day Opportunities: Providing meaningful, structured activities for adults with learning disabilities, autism, and additional needs to nurture their abilities and independence.
- Young People’s Programmes: Tailored training for young people (aged 18–25) with Special Educational Needs (SEND) to help them prepare for real-world work environments and transition toward paid employment.
- Support in Employment: Partnering with individuals and employers to help disabled people find, secure, and sustain paid roles. This includes providing practical workplace support, such as job coaching and administrative assistance through the Access to Work scheme.
Approach & Values
- Empowerment: Their philosophy is built on nurturing potential and providing support that is specifically tailored to the individual's needs.
- Inclusivity: They are committed to ensuring that everyone they support has equal opportunities and feels valued within their community.
- Professional Expertise: Their team includes dedicated professionals who specialise in disability employment and community support, ensuring high-quality, person-centred service.
Industry Role
London Ability operates as a not-for-profit social care charity. Unlike healthcare recruitment agencies, their role is to provide long-term, rehabilitative, and vocational support. They function as a bridge between individuals with disabilities and the workforce, facilitating independence and social inclusion.
