Deputy service manager - Supported Accommodation
We are seeking a Deputy Service Manager to manage the Greater Manchester area of our supported accommodation service. We currently have two group-living homes of two beds each in the Greater Manchester area, in Bury. We plan to expand our provision in the coming years across North and West Manchester, to include a total of up to three homes of three or four beds each.
As the Deputy Service Manager, you will report to the Registered Service Manager. Initially, you will manage a team of six permanent support workers and a small team of bank staff. As the service grows, you may be required to manage nine permanent staff members plus bank staff across four homes.
You will assist the Registered Service Manager in day-to-day management, regulatory compliance, and strategic oversight. You will attend young people's meetings and will be responsible for creating support plans and risk assessments, and for keeping these up to date. You will be responsible for the management and supervision of the staff working in your homes.
You will
- Manage staff teams, including supervisions, appraisals, sickness monitoring, disciplinary meetings, and rotas
- Understand and promote the safeguarding of young people
- Ensure good quality records are maintained, including key performance indicators and information relating to young people.
- Act as an advocate for young people in meetings with external professionals, and ensure support plans and risk assessments are kept up to date
- Oversee the homes’ budgets and track spending
- Provide a positive role model for staff and young people
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements such as the provisions set out in, but not restricted to, the Supported Accommodation Regulations and Quality Standards, Children’s Act 1989, Data Protection Act 1998, Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, and Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018.
- Ensure the principles of equality and diversity are embedded in the culture of the homes.
- Plan and lead team meetings and multidisciplinary discussions to ensure effective communication, coordination, and collaboration with external stakeholders
- Lead on the implementation of policies, procedures, and quality assurance.
Experience
- You must have at least two years' experience working with children in a residential setting, or in another role related to residential childcare.
- A Level 3 qualification in a related subject (e.g., Residential Childcare), or an alternative qualification such as an undergraduate degree in a related subject, is a must.
- A Level 5 in Leadership and Management is a plus. If you don't currently hold a Level 5, you will be expected to work towards this following your six-month probation period.

Duties
- You will help the Registered Service Manager to ensure that the service meets regulatory standards and delivers person-centred support which prioritises keeping children safe.
- You must have a good understanding of the Supported Accommodation (England) Regulations 2023.
- Ideally, will have worked in supported accommodation, or have experience of a management role in a children's residential home.

At Kilter Care, we promote a nurturing environment for children and staff, with emphasis on work/life balance and protecting the out-of-work time of management and support staff. We have low staff turnover and low sickness rates.
You will be required to be on call some weekday evenings, and for one weekend out of every three, providing support by phone to staff in our homes in case of emergency. You would not be expected to work evenings and weekends outside of this. You will be paid for on-call work at weekends in addition to your annual salary.
Salary £35,000 - £38,000 plus overtime and on-call payments. Kilter Care operates an annual bonus scheme for all staff linked to a percentage of the company's profits. Deputy service managers receive a share of 5% of company profits up to a maximum of £2,500.
