Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Physiotherapist to join our Older Persons Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Team at the Julian Hospital.
Within this role, you will be working using a person-centred care approach alongside a rich and varied MDT. You will assess, as well as develop and plan specialist treatment for service users with complex mental health and physical problems.
You will be required to carry out moving and handling assessments for service users presenting with multiple pathologies and mental health difficulties alongside the wider MDT.

We supply learning and development to meet the needs of the service users, staff, service and Trust. Being ward-based, you will be able to work independently and will also have contact with other Physiotherapists / AHP colleagues on site.
(HCPC registration and CSP membership are essential).
There are opportunities to engage in CPD at MDT, AHP Forums, and meetings. As a band 6 you will be expected to support relevant workstreams (both locally and as part of the Trust-wide AHP group) as well as to lead on an area of specialist interest as part of the Older Persons AHP group.
Within our service, you will have the opportunity to work with inpatients who have organic (Dementia) and functional presentations such as psychosis, anxiety and mood disorders.
You will have the opportunity to use your physical health training alongside the ability to communicate and engage with older people living with complex mental and physical health needs.
Duties
- Supervision of junior staff
- Preceptorship of Band 5 Physiotherapists
- Practice assessor for Physiotherapy students
- Maintaining service users' safety, comfort and well-being
- Completion of moving and handling assessments, falls, balance, neurological, MSK and respiratory assessments
- Delivering groups and exercise programs
- Providing specialist advice
- Use of community equipment provision systems (TCES equip) to facilitate the transition of care during the service users' discharge process
- Completion of home visits and visiting care homes, on discharge planning
- Working closely with other AHP's and the wider MDT to provide high-quality care for service users
- Identifying and contributing to service developments
- Demonstrate strong leadership and role modelling to junior staff as well as ward teams

To support this, we have a system of rotations across the Julian site, so you will have the opportunity to be based on an organic (dementia) ward for 8-9 months and then rotate to a functional ward.
