Sister / Charge Nurse
An exciting opportunity has opened for a permanent Band 6 on Ward 11. Ward 11 is an elderly medical ward with a dynamic workforce, who are keen to help support and develop nurses interested in experiencing this exciting and changeable environment.
In joining our team, you will bring your skills and passion to provide the highest quality patient-focused care and compassion for our patients. You must be a team player with excellent communications skills and have the ability to work using your own initiative as well as part of the wider team.

Main duties
- Strive for continuous improvements in the delivery of high-quality patient-focused care.
- Participate within the ward team, including the delegation of work on a day-to-day basis for junior staff.
- Act as a clinical expert providing specialist knowledge and advice to both nurses and medical staff working within the unit.
- Be the named clinical expert responsible for on shift for the continuing care of patients within the unit.
- Organise own workload and support junior staff to time manage and prioritise.
- Plan and manage skill mix to reflect the workload and meet the needs of the patients, including using the e-rostering system effectively.
- Actively participate in the department budget and, with support from the ward sister, exercise care and economy in the ordering and use of supplies/ equipment.
- Participate in the development and delivery of a philosophy of care which involves/respects the rights of patients’ carers and staff.
- Lead by example, motivate and empower others.
- Promote effective communication when liaising with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Relate to all staff and patients confidently, demonstrating good listening skills and work effectively as part of a team.
- Acting as a positive ambassador for the Trust, always promoting the best clinical and professional practice.
