The Role
As the Children’s Registered Manager, you will hold overall responsibility for the leadership, management and operational oversight of our residential childcare provision. Initially responsible for one children’s home, you will play a key role in supporting the organisation’s planned growth, with oversight increasing to up to three homes over a three-year development period.
You will work closely with senior leaders to establish and embed a culture of excellence, ensuring each service delivers safe, nurturing and high-quality care while maintaining full regulatory compliance and achieving outstanding outcomes for children and young people.
You will ensure all homes operate in accordance with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards, maintaining high levels of safeguarding, compliance and therapeutic care while supporting teams to deliver exceptional outcomes.
You will foster home-like environments where children feel safe, valued and empowered to achieve their full potential .
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership and Team Development
- Recruit, lead, motivate and develop high-performing residential childcare teams.
- Provide effective supervision, performance management and coaching.
- Ensure staffing structures, rotas and workforce planning support the needs of children and services.
- Promote a positive culture focused on learning, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Safeguarding and Quality Care
- Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
- Ensure robust safeguarding practices are embedded across all services.
- Oversee care planning, risk management and behaviour support strategies.
- Develop effective partnerships with social workers, local authorities, education providers, health professionals and families.
- Champion trauma-informed and therapeutically informed practice.
- Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain Ofsted registration and ensure ongoing compliance across all services.
- Lead preparation for Ofsted inspections and Regulation 44 visits.
- Ensure all policies, procedures and records meet regulatory requirements.
- Drive quality assurance processes and continuous service improvement.
- Operational and Financial Management
- Manage budgets effectively and ensure resources are used efficiently.
- Monitor occupancy, staffing and service performance.
- Maintain safe, welcoming and well-presented living environments.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and organisational policies.
What We Are Looking For
Essential Requirements
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or currently working towards completion).
- Minimum of three years’ experience working within a residential children’s home setting during the last five years.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in a leadership or management role within residential childcare.
- Proven track record of achieving positive Ofsted inspection outcomes.
- Strong knowledge of the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.
- Sound understanding of safeguarding, child development, attachment theory and trauma-informed practice.
- Excellent leadership, communication and decision-making skills.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
- Experience overseeing multiple residential services.
- Experience supporting new home registrations and service development.
- Knowledge of therapeutic and psychologically informed models of care.
