Registered Manager (Designate) — New Children's Home, Luton
£63,000 base + bonuses (package up to £71,000) · Full-time · On-site, Luton
Havenwell House is a new three-bed children's home in Luton, and we're looking for an experienced Registered Manager to lead our Ofsted registration and become our first Registered Manager.
This is a genuine ground-floor opportunity. You'll help shape the home from pre-registration through to opening — building the team, establishing the culture, and putting your own stamp on it rather than inheriting someone else's. If you've wanted to build a home the right way from the start, this is that role.
About the home
- Small, three beds — relationship-based, non-institutional care
- Young people aged 11–16, mixed, with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD)
- Trauma-informed model with waking-night staffing
- Currently pre-registration, with refurbishment underway
What you'll do
- Lead the Ofsted registration process (SC1/SC2) as our proposed Registered Manager
- Recruit, train and develop the staff team from the ground up
- Own the Statement of Purpose and operational policies
- Build strong relationships with placing local authorities and safeguarding partners
- Establish a safe, homely, high-quality environment before the first child arrives
What you'll need
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or working towards it)
- Experience as a Registered Manager or Deputy Manager in a children's home
- Working knowledge of the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, the Quality Standards and Ofsted inspection
- Strong safeguarding judgement and the confidence to decline an unsafe placement
- Eligibility to register as an Ofsted Registered Manager
What's on offer
- £63,000 base salary
- £4,000 registration bonus on successful Ofsted registration
- £4,000 recurring annual bonus for every Good or Outstanding inspection year
- A written progression pathway and a hands-on, supportive director
- The autonomy to build something from the start
Havenwell House is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check with a children's barred list check and full safer-recruitment clearance. All applicants must share our commitment to keeping children safe.
Applications are reviewed on receipt — early applications are encouraged.
