Care Assistant – Preston – £12.80-£13.36 per hour

Red Rose Care • Full-time • Preston, England, United Kingdom • £12.80 - £13.36 / hour • 3d ago

Overview

Your days free, your evenings with us

Tea, evening medication, getting washed and changed, and settling down for the night -this round is about helping people end their day comfortably, following the routines that matter to them.

Shifts usually run from 5 pm to 10:30 pm. If life allows, you can start from 3pm and support people with social visits, but it’s not essential, and we can work around different availability before 5 pm.

Bedtime routines are personal, and people rest easier when it’s a familiar face at the door, so we’re looking for team members who can commit to regular evening shifts. With most of your day your own, it can fit well around family life, another role or a course.

What you'd be doing

You’ll visit people in their own homes across Preston, providing support that’s individual to them, their routines and what matters most in their lives. This could include washing and dressing, toileting and continence care, medication, preparing meals and helping around the home.

It’s also about promoting independence, offering choice and building trusted relationships – becoming a familiar face and making a positive difference to someone’s day.

Personal care is a real part of many visits and can feel daunting at first. You’ll receive full training and shadowing until you feel confident.

What you'd earn

Between £12.80 to £13.36 an hour, depending on the time of day you're working
Up to £26.20 an hour on bank holidays
Paid travel time between every visit
45p per mile between visits

The rest of it

Guaranteed hours contracts from 10 to 20 hours a week, or zero hours if you'd rather stay flexible
Alternate weekends – both days every other week, or every Saturday, or every Sunday, whichever suits you best
Fully funded qualifications in care
Additional annual leave for length of service (T&Cs apply)
£350 when you refer a friend who joins us
We pay for your Enhanced DBS check (T&Cs apply)
Employee Assistance Programme
Career progression into senior carer and supervisory roles

No experience? Not a problem

Some of our team came into care from something else entirely – retail, hospitality, warehouse work or raising a family. You’ll get a full induction, ongoing training and shadow experienced team members until you feel ready.

What we can’t teach is kindness, reliability and genuinely caring about the people you support - turning up day after day and treating every person with the dignity and respect they deserve.

Some testimonials from our team

'I have worked for numerous care companies over the years and I can say this company is the best company I have worked for.' – Mark

'I love being a carer at Red Rose Care, I feel like I make a huge difference to the lives of the clients I support.' – Stacy

What you need

A full UK driving licence and access to your own car - you’ll be travelling between people’s homes throughout your shift, so this is essential. You’ll also need business-use insurance.

You'll need to be 18 or over for this role.

Red Rose Care is an Equal Opportunities employer and welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds.

What happens next

Apply and we'll review your application. If it looks like a good match, you'll get a short phone call from us. If it goes well, we'll book you in to meet us face to face.

We receive a high number of applications, so unfortunately, we can’t respond to everyone individually. If you haven’t heard from us within 5 working days, your application hasn’t been successful this time.

From accepting an offer to your first shift usually takes around 2–4 weeks, mainly while we complete your DBS and pre-employment checks.
