Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Patient Consultations: Deliver comprehensive primary care consultations across multiple modalities, including face-to-face, video, and telephone appointments.
- Clinical Assessments: Conduct thorough clinical assessments, formulate evidence-based diagnoses, and implement high-standard treatment plans.
- Acute & Emergency Care: Manage acute and emergency presentations with appropriate urgency and precision.
- Domiciliary Care: Provide home visits for housebound patients to ensure continuous care.
- Chronic Disease Management: Oversee programs adhering to the latest clinical guidelines (e.g., diabetes, asthma, hypertension).
- Minor Surgery: Perform minor surgical procedures within appropriate clinical governance frameworks.
- Referrals: Establish and maintain effective referral pathways to secondary care services.
- Education & Mentorship: Supervise and mentor junior medical staff (foundation doctors, GP trainees, allied healthcare professionals) and participate in the structured teaching of medical and pharmacy students.
- Governance & Practice Growth: Lead and contribute to the practice’s CPD program, clinical audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Experience (Essential)
- Full GMC registration with a license to practice and inclusion on the GP Register.
- Completion of GP speciality training (CCT or equivalent).
- Extensive, proven experience working within NHS General Practice.
- Proven ability to deliver high-quality consultations across face-to-face, telephone, and video formats.
- Deep knowledge of chronic disease management programs and emergency primary care presentations.
- Experience managing clinical correspondence, accurate medical records, referrals, and clinical governance activities (audits, QI projects, safeguarding).
- Excellent clinical decision-making, diagnostic, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience supervising or mentoring junior doctors, medical students, or allied healthcare professionals.
- Special interest clinics or postgraduate qualifications relevant to general practice (e.g., Dermatology, Women's Health, Musculoskeletal services, Family Planning).
- Understanding and experience in primary care innovation, leadership roles, or service improvement.
- Familiarity with clinical software systems such as EMIS or SystmOne.
- Experience working with vulnerable or marginalised patient groups.
- Additional languages spoken relevant to the local community.
