Role Description:
- The Responsible Individual will have overall accountability for the quality of care and compliance across designated homes.
- Day-to-day, the role involves overseeing service operations, supporting Registered Managers, and ensuring that care practices meet regulatory standards and organisational policies.
- The person in this role will monitor safeguarding procedures, review incident reports, and lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance outcomes for children and young adults.
- They will build effective relationships with external stakeholders such as local authorities, regulators, and partner agencies, and represent the service in inspections and reviews.
- The Responsible Individual will also provide leadership, direction, and coaching to staff teams, promote a therapeutic and child-centred culture, and ensure that young people’s voices inform service development.
Qualifications
- Strong leadership and management skills, including experience overseeing social care or residential services and supporting multidisciplinary teams.
- In-depth understanding of safeguarding, regulatory frameworks, and best practices in children’s residential care and supported accommodation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with young people, families, colleagues, local authorities, and regulatory bodies.
- Proven ability in service improvement, including monitoring quality, analysing data, and implementing action plans and policies.
- Relevant professional qualification in social care, social work, psychology, youth work, or a related field; registered or eligible to register with appropriate professional bodies where required.
- Experience in therapeutic or trauma-informed approaches, and an ability to support staff to embed these models in daily practice.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound, child-centred decisions under pressure.
- Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, and to promoting the rights, welfare, and participation of children and young adults.
- Previous experience in a Responsible Individual, Registered Manager, or senior leadership role within children’s services is highly desirable.
- Willingness to work flexibly, including occasional evenings or weekends, to meet service needs and support urgent situations.
- Minimum NVQ level 5, ideally working towards or completed 7
- Some business/commercial as well as care-based awareness
